Welcome to Blacksnake Meadery, Carroll County’s first winery and Southwest Virginia’s only meadery. We are a family-owned and operated business in the beautiful southern Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia.
Our desire to live more closely with nature and our love of all things fermented have resulted in the establishment of our meadery. Blacksnake Meadery’s closeness with nature began with negotiations with the original reptilian inhabitants (and namesakes) of the meadery. It has since expanded to the introduction of an ever-growing population of honeybees, who produce at least half of the honey in our meads, as well as the cultivating of the numerous wild apples, crabapples, and berries on the property. We hope to expand our plantings into an array of fruits and herbs suitable both for flavoring mead and producing honey.

April 28 – Spring Open House and Honey Tasting
Sample six varieties of honey and mead. Learn about bees and how varietal honey is produced. Vote for your favorite varietal honey. $5 Tasting fee
May 19 – Mead “Cocktails”
Experience the versatility of mead in mixed drinks. Sample mead-based drinks and get inspired to make your own. Blacksnake mead will be the only alcoholic beverage in each “cocktail”. $8 Tasting fee
June 16 Music, Mead and Cider
Visit the back roads of southwest Virginia—sample cider and mead and enjoy local music at two unique artisans less than 2 miles apart. June 23 —24 Mountain Road Wine Experience "Picnic Down the Parkway"
Seven Mountain Road Wine Trail Sites
Visit Foggy Ridge Cider, Villa Appalaccia, Chateau Morrisette, AmRhein Winery, Blacksnake Meadery, Attimo Winery and our newest member, Stanburn Winery, for a self-guided tasting tour featuring picnic themed treats. Experience small bites of classic picnic fare like paired with wine, cider and mead in beautiful mountain road settings. Tickets can be purchased in advance or day of at any location. $25 in advance (by June 8) or $35 at the first door covers tastings and bites at all seven locations. 11 to 5 Saturday; 11 to 5 Sunday.

November 24 Black Friday Recovery
Relax and unwind while you sample cider and mead. Enjoy turkey soup at Foggy Ridge and honey glazed pork and sweet potatoes at Blacksnake Meadery. $8 covers treats and tastings at both spots. 11 to 5.
December 15 Holiday Open House
Double the fun—sample Christmas goodies and check names off your holiday gift list at Foggy Ridge Cider and Blacksnake Meadery's holiday welcome. Enjoy mulled mead and music by the fire at Blacksnake. $8 covers tastings at both locations. 11 to 5.
